The cotton layer maintains freshness, the inner layer absorbs x10 more moisture than other fabrics and the fleece under side provides comfort. The liner is not waterproof but that means they are comfortable and remain fresh for over 12 hours and washed on a weekly bases they will last  between 3-4 years (less if used in a menstrual cycle)
